SHO TIME: A Motion Study on the Science of Performance
Designed as an homage to the dual-threat power of Japanese mega-star Shohei Ohtani, SHO TIME is a rhythmic deconstruction of a single, elite moment: the baseball swing. The film treats the diamond as a digital stage, using CRT textures and glitch motifs to frame the athlete as a high-fidelity performer. By stripping away the traditional stadium environment, the piece focuses on the moment of anticipation and the explosive delivery of the hit, that hyper-dilated window where physical instinct and data-driven precision collide.
Building an "Inside Baseball" world required a multi-app workflow. I used this project as a challenge to develop my own Cavalry skills, utilising its procedural speed and kinetic dynamics, while Cinema 4D (Redshift) handled the hero character animations, and further infographic explorations. The piece was finished in After Effects, where the type animation and analog textures were layered to create the film's signature tech-noir finish.
This technical world is anchored by the sonic architecture of the amazing sound-design studio Folding Waves, whose tactile, percussive score replaces traditional foley to reinforce the film's cinematic tension.
This film is a non-commercial personal project created as an artistic tribute to Shohei Ohtani. It is an independent motion study and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Dodgers, or Major League Baseball.
